AHWI aims to be at the forefront of Australian health workforce research for four main strategic areas and thus has a significant role in shaping future Australian health workforce policy and practice.
The Australian Health Workforce Institute (AHWI) established in December 2007, is a Research Institute hosted by the School of Population Health at the University of Melbourne. The Universities of Adelaide and Auckland joined as Affiliate Members in 2010.
The Australian Health Workforce Institute aims to develop and expand existing health workforce research and its core activities include
- Mapping future health systems
- Developing innovative and flexible models of health care
- Working with jurisdictions and the private sector to develop and implement health workforce policy
- Skilling future health workforce researchers
- Ensuring an evidence base to inform health workforce policy
AHWI aims to be at the forefront of Australian health workforce research for four main strategic areas (see figure below) and thus has a significant role in shaping future Australian health workforce policy and practice. AHWI’s mission is to conduct research that will help deliver Australia a flexible and engaged health workforce by 2020.
